The second "Strike Team" of Flagler County Fire Rescue left for Fort Myers Beach on Tuesday Oct. 25 to relieve the first team.

The second team is the last part of a 10-day operation to Fort Myers Beach to staff one of the firehouses, and consists of two five-day deployments, according to a press release from Flagler County Public Information Officer Julie Murphy. The first team departed on Oct. 20 for their five-day stay.

Battalion Chief Cody King, Community Paramedic Rob Errett, and firefighter-paramedics Justin McDonald, Ron Titus, and Adam VanDeusen were sent to replace Lt. Karl Froling, Lt. Tony Guerin, Reuben Zuazua, Beau Kruithoff, and Prince Mack, the press release said.

Fire Rescue Chief Michael Tucker chose the members of the Strike Team, including certified Strike Team leaders, and said in the press release they are set to demobilize on Nov. 1. The fire engine will remain in Fort Myers Beach the entire 10 days, with firefighters shuttling in department pickup trucks.

Tucker said the Strike Team in Fort Myers Beach has been dealing with gas leaks, medical calls, and construction accidents, according to the press release.

“They are starting to bring the power back to the island of Fort Myers Beach, which is when you start to see fires,” Tucker said.
