The 2022 Biketoberfest weekend had a record number of trauma admissions and trauma team activations. Patients with trauma admitted and deemed Biketoberfest-related were 32 and trauma team activations deemed related to Biketoberfest were 25.

The number of trauma activations is 17 more than 2021.

“This four-day event is known to be a busy time in the emergency department at our three hospitals, but this year was the busiest year in the last four years with 66 patients with trauma admitted," said Lindsay Martin, director of emergency and trauma nursing.

The demographics of patients with trauma showed they were 48 years old on average. Volusia County residents made up 53% of those patients.

“I can’t say enough about the teamwork and commitment of our hospital staff," Martin said. "Everyone gears up for this event and is ready to provide the highest level of care in the area to support to all our special events. Having a Level ll Trauma Center in Volusia County is a blessing. We work hand in hand with law enforcement and first responders to be there when we are needed. It’s why we are here.”
