A recreational vehicle stolen from Flagler Beach ended up in a standoff with police in Lake County on Sept. 14.

The driver failed to pull over when signaled by police at 2 a.m. on U.S. Highway 27, and officers pursued the vehicle south on the highway.

Police used Stop Sticks to puncture the RV's tires and force the vehicle to a stop just south of Lake Louisa State Park, and units surrounded the vehicle, according to the incident report.

S.W.A.T. eventually arrived on scene and forced entry into the RV, where the suspect was found dead. The incident report does not state how the man died. There were no other occupants.

The RV’s owner had filed a police report on Sept. 13 stating that the vehicle was missing from the 3300 block of Old Kings Road.

According to the initial theft report, the owner told police that he didn’t know how long the vehicle had been missing, as he hadn’t been to see it in a few weeks.

Police in Lake County have recovered the vehicle, and the owner has been contacted.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
