The Palm Coast city government will host a free Water Treatment Study Group Oct. 18 to Jan. 17 teach to people interested in careers in the water and wastewater industries.
Volunteer instructors from regional utility departments in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach will teach the class, according to a Palm Coast city government news release.
“There is an abundancy of career opportunities in the water and wastewater industries right now, and our goal is to present these opportunities to those interested in a way that they can immerse themselves in what these industries entail, and gauge their interest in pursuing a career,” said Palm Coast Utility Chief Operator Fred Greiner, one of the volunteer instructors who will lead the group. “In turn, it also allows us a chance to work directly with potential candidates.”
To become a state certified operator through the FLDEP, participants must also complete a prerequisite course listed in the DEP operator handbook, pass a state examination and accumulate 2,080 hours of operations training. Palm Coast frequently hires trainees.
The study group will take place at Palm Coast Water Treatment Plant No. 3, at 400 Peavy Grade, Palm Coast. Seating is limited. Contact Greiner at [email protected].
