UPDATE: Volusia schools will be closed through Friday due to Hurricane Ian

All school activities, events and programs scheduled for Sept. 28-30 are canceled.

All district public schools and district offices will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 28, Thursday, Sept. 29, due to Hurricane Ian, Volusia County Schools announced Monday evening. On Tuesday evening, VCS announced schools would also be closed on Friday, Sept. 30.

The news release states that several Volusia schools are needed for shelters as early as Wednesday, and that forecasters are anticipating deteriorating weather conditions over the next several days. These include sustained heavy winds and possible substantial rainfall and flooding for Volusia. 

The district encourages parents and community residents to monitor the district's website — vcsedu.org — and its social media pages for further updates. You may also opt to receive storm impact updates via text, by texting "YES" to 67587 and join the "VCS Connect" network.
