A 25-year-old woman from Orlando died as a result of a six-vehicle crash on I-95 near State Road 40 on Friday, April 21.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was a passenger in a sedan driven by a 28-year-old Orlando man who failed to maintain his southbound lane and struck the right side of an SUV which was traveling in the center lane. The Orlando man then collided with a second sedan, causing it to travel across the lanes and crash into the guardrail.
The second sedan then reentered the southbound travel lanes and crashed into the rear left side of another SUV, according to FHP. The second sedan came to a rest in the path of a semitruck, which crashed into the sedan's right side, causing both vehicles to rotate and enter the paved median. The sixth vehicle, an SUV, swerved into the paved median to avoid a collision, but was struck on its right side by the front of the second sedan.
The first sedan driven by the Orlando man rotated across all southbound lanes and collided with the guardrail. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. His female passenger was pronounced dead on the scene. Neither were wearing a seatbelt.
Three more people, including the 20-year-old driver of the second sedan, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
