After four years of working with Volusia County Government, Brad Burbaugh is the county's new community services director.

The County Council approved his appointment on Aug. 1.

“Brad is one of our homegrown success stories,” County Manager George Recktenwald said in a press release. “We’ve been greatly impressed by his leadership skills and dedication to serving county residents, and we’re confident that he can do an outstanding job directing one of our largest departments.”

Burbaugh was hired in November 2019 as the county’s extension director.

Two years later, he was tapped to head the newly-formed Resource Stewardship Division, which includes Volusia Forever, Volusia ECHO, Land Management and the UF/IFAS Extension.

As Community Services director, he will oversee Community Assistance; Library Services; Veterans Services; Resource Stewardship; and Parks, Recreation and Culture.

Before joining Volusia County, Burbaugh was an extension agent in Virginia and Duval County and served as the county extension and mosquito control director in Clay County.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead a team of outstanding employees who have dedicated their careers to serving our community,” Burbaugh said. “Together, we will continue to deliver results for our residents with an unwavering commitment to responsive and fiscally responsible services.”
