Volusia County announces closures due to Hurricane Idalia

Garbage and recycling collection schedules in unincorporated areas of Volusia County will remain unchanged.

Volusia County offices will remain open during normal operating hours on Tuesday, Aug. 29. All Volusia County offices will be closed until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30.

The Emergency Operations Center and all personnel responding to Hurricane Idalia will remain operational.

All 14 branches of the Volusia County Public Library will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29. They will reopen at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30. Residents who lose power can use any branch as a cooling station.

The Volusia County Council special meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, will continue as planned. 

Garbage and recycling

Garbage and recycling collection schedules in unincorporated areas of Volusia County will remain unchanged. Those who live within city limits should contact their municipality for collection updates. The Tomoka Landfill and all transfer stations will remain operational during standard business hours.

Inlet and coastal parks

Smyrna Dunes Park and Lighthouse Point Park will be closed from sunrise to 1 p.m. Wednesday. All coastal park restrooms and showers will remain closed until they have been inspected for damage.
