Palm Coast has announced that it is canceling the Starlight Parade on Dec. 16 due to severe weather forecasted for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, Flagler County could see severe thunderstorms with the potential for localized flooding on Saturday into Sunday. A press release from the Palm Coast city government said the decision to cancel the parade was made in collaboration with public safety and emergency management partners.

"The safety of the community is always the top priority," the press release stated. "Given the forecasted severe weather conditions, it is believed to be in the best interest of everyone involved to cancel the Starlight Parade."

The 2023 parade would have been the first Starlight Parade in Palm Coast in three years.

The city will not reschedule the parade for this year because of the "significant challenges" in selecting a date that would accommodate everyone, between Flagler School remaining in session through Friday and the upcoming Christmas holiday, the press release stated.

"The city extends heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, volunteers, community partners, and city staff who dedicated their time, creativity, and enthusiasm to preparing for this year's Starlight Parade," the press release stated.
