The Florida Department of Education released school grades for the 2022-2023 school year on Dec. 11, and Flagler Schools retained its B grade as a district.
“As a district, though we have opportunities for improvement, we are moving in the right direction,” Superintendent LaShakia Moore said in a statement released by the school district. “I am confident that we will continue to improve academic achievement."
Old Kings Elementary School and Indian Trails Middle School received A grades. Rymfire, Wadsworth and Belle Terre elementary schools and Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast high schools received B grades. Bunnell Elementary and Buddy Taylor Middle received C grades.
Rymfire and FPC each improved from C to B grades from the previous school year. Belle Terre dropped from an A to a B grade.
Flagler County students improved their performance in science and social studies.
This was the first set of school grades to use the new state assessment scores. Flagler Schools received 64% of the total possible points. In the previous grading system, that would have earned the district an A grade.
“All districts continue to face challenges following the pandemic,” Moore said in the statement. “But this data is important so we can identify areas where we can help our children succeed. We are well on our way to moving Flagler Schools forward to an A district. I'm encouraged that we now have a strong baseline on which to compare in the years ahead.”
