Though the Capt. James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution couldn't hold its annual Wreaths Across America event on Dec. 16 due to inclement weather, the chapter still made sure veterans' graves were honored.
On Dec. 18, the chapter, Hillside Angels and some members of the public met at Hillside Cemetery and Gethsemane
Cemetery to lay wreaths on veterans' graves. A wreath was also placed at the James Ormond tomb, located at the James Ormond Tomb Park off Old Dixie Highway.
Wreaths Across America aims to help people "remember the fallen, honor those that serve and their families, and teach the next generation about the value of freedom," according to its mission statement. The event began in 1992 in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. Last year, 3,702 locations nationwide hosted a Wreaths Across America event, distributing over 2.7 million wreaths, according to a press release.
