On Dec. 19, 2023, exactly one year after the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office unveiled the new 51,615 square foot Sheriff’s Operations and District 3 building, the FCSO won the Bronze OFFICER Magazine Station Design Award for buildings larger than 50,000 square feet.
The Sheriff’s Operations Center is located at 61 Sheriff E.W. Johnston Drive in Bunnell. The OFFICER Magazine Station Design Awards program recognizes outstanding architecture and design for new law enforcement and public safety facilities nationwide.
All winners were announced and published in the November/December issue of OFFICER Magazine and online at Officer.com.
Designed in collaboration between Sheriff Rick Staly, the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, and Architects Design Group (ADG) of Winter Park, Florida, the award-winning building includes administrative offices, conference spaces, interview rooms, crime scene laboratories, evidence storage, vehicle evidence processing with a vehicle lift, sally port, a 2,760 square foot multipurpose training room with dividable walls, and a separate 6,000 square foot purchasing and storage building.
Sheriff Staly was heavily involved in the design of the facility as his decades of leadership experience in law enforcement greatly contributed to the creation of the award-winning design.
In addition, the experience provided by ADG in the functional design reflected their decades of experience designing public safety and law enforcement facilities across America.
“A special thank you to the Board of County Commissioners for building an effective, efficient, and modern building for our employees to work from for decades to come,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “We’ve been able to host a multitude of events for our residents as well as host outside agencies, sharing information and building relationships to make Flagler County and Florida a safer place for everyone. Thank you to OFFICER Magazine for recognizing the work of FCSO and Architects Design Group.”
