The two-phase option could add up to 112 additional spaces.

The Palm Coast City Council is exploring options for expanding parking at the community center.

A two-phased option for new parking spaces was proposed at the Feb. 14 workshop meeting. The spaces would be located across the street from the community center on Clubhouse Drive.

Seventy spaces could be added to the undeveloped lot between Fire House 22 and Florida Health Care pharmacy on Palm Coast Parkway, Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill said. If more parking beyond that is desired, phase two would memorialize Fire House 22 in some way and add 42 spaces on to that lot, Berryhill said.

That would expand community center parking by 112 spaces.

“We don't have enough parking. It's really that simple,” Vice Mayor Ed Danko said. “I think 70 additional spaces would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if we need to go further than that.”

Parks and Recreation Director James Hirst said staff also asked permission to use the parking lots of nearby businesses outside of business hours. Florida Health Care agreed, he said, if the city added the usage to insurance coverage.
