Flagler County will receive $200,000 for vulnerability assessments in its third resiliency grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

The assessments are part of a state initiative called the Statewide Flooding and Sea Level Rise Resilience Plan, according to a press release from Flagler County.

County Administrator Heidi Petito said the grants and work are critical to the county.

“These assessments will address everything from inland flooding to stormwater to anything related to sea-level rise,” she said. “We have taken a pounding from these storms in recent years, and we need to make sure we are building up and building back our infrastructure — which includes the dunes.”

The assessments will include a critical and regionally significant asset inventory, topographic data and flood scenario-related data, and, for coastal areas, a projection for sea level impacts.

The award was part of $28 million that FDEP allocated for assessments across the state's 67 counties on Feb. 13.

Flagler County has received $475,000 for vulnerability assessments between its three three awards.

The work is set to start later in 2023, according to a press release from FDEP.
