Ormond Beach Police Cpl. Rhett Summerlot, Officer Rafael Medina and Chief Jesse Godfrey are gearing up to participate in the 2023 Police Unity Tour, the Ormond Beach Police Department announced on Thursday, Feb. 16.
The Police Unity Tour — a three-day, 250-mile bicycle ride from Portsmouth, Virginia, to Washington, D.C., that will take place in May 2023 — is dedicated to raising awareness about police officers killed in the line of duty and supporting the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum, which honors more than 26,000 men and women, according to a news release by OBPD.
As members of the Police Unity Tour, Summerlot, Medina and Godfrey must raise a minimum of $2,000 per rider to participate.
"The Ormond Beach Police Department is honored to have Corporal Rhett Summerlot, Officer Rafael Medina, and Chief Jesse Godfrey represent the department in the Police Unity Tour," the news release states. "Their participation in this event underscores the department’s commitment to supporting law enforcement officers and recognizing their ultimate sacrifice."
