The following day, eight band ensembles and 14 soloists traveled to Fleming Island High School. All the ensembles and eight soloists received superior ratings. Six soloists received excellent ratings.

The clarinet choir, tuba quartet, brass quintet and winter guard all advance to state. Four soloists also advance to state: Sean Norris (tenor saxophone), Chance Miraballes (tenor saxophone), Tyler Grady (trombone) and Bryden Bower (bass trombone).

At the Florida Vocal Association districts on Feb. 4 at Seminole High School, two choral ensembles, two soloists and pianist Ryan Scott received superior ratings and advance to state competition in Orlando on March 29. A duet and two other soloists received excellent ratings.

The senior ensemble (Victoria Arce, Andrea Oliveras, Eliana Kraer, Samantha Berkowitz, Britney Van Houten, Stephanie Lorincz, Anne Demegillo and Mena Katz-Veloso) has been with Matanzas choral director Jens Oliva for five years, including their eighth-grade year at Indian Trails Middle School.

The small ensemble includes Kendall Blais, Amanda Lopez, Angelina Piniero, Lia Tagintsev, Alexa Wingfield and Keila Brouse. Soloists receiving superior ratings were Andrea Oliveras, who performed a piece in Spanish and German, and Diana Cangialosi who performed pieces in English and Italian.
