ORIGINAL STORY:

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 21-year-old Volusia County man in connection to the Dec. 19 armed robbery of a Palm Coast gas station.

Collin Calvert was arrested on Dec. 29 and charged with robbery with a firearm in connection with the armed robbery of the Mobil gas station on the 200 block of Pine Lakes Parkway in Palm Coast, according to a press release from FCSO. He was initially arrested by the Port Orange Police Department on unrelated charges, but the FCSO was able to connect Calvert to the robbery, the release said.

He is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $250,000 bond.

"Thank you to the anonymous tipsters who led our detectives to the Volusia County area to search for this suspect," Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said, "and a special thank you to all of the agencies that assisted and helped us quickly solve this case in less than two weeks."

The Mobil gas station was robbed at gunpoint at 8:40 p.m. Dec. 19 when a man wearing a face shield and ball cap entered the store with an AR-15 style firearm, according to an FCSO incident report. The man told the cashier to hand over the cash in the register, and she did. He then ran.

The Sheriff's Office posted about the incident on social media and received a tip that an AR-15 had been stolen from someone in Volusia County.

With help from the POPD and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Calvert was identified as a suspect, and the POPD arrested him, the press release said.

FCSO detectives interviewed him and found that he had sold the firearm used in the Mobil robbery, and had sold other stolen firearms shortly after the robbery, the press release said. The FCSO arrested him.

Calvert will be extradited to Flagler County to face charges, the press release said. He has no prior criminal history in Flagler County.
