Flagler Beach Commission Chair Ken Bryan has announced he will not be running for reelection in March.
Bryan announced his withdrawal on his Facebook page on Jan. 10, writing that he is choosing to focus "more on family and new adventures."
"It has been an honor and privilege to serve many communities in the past, including Flagler Beach for the last three years," Bryan wrote in the post. "However, there comes a time when one must pass the baton and move on to their next chapter in life."
Flagler Beach's commissioners serve three-year terms. Bryan was elected in 2020, starting off his stewardship at the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. In March of 2022, he was elected to serve as chair on the commission board.
In the upcoming primary election on March 7, Flagler Beach's City Commission has two seats on the ballot — Bryan's seat and Vice Chair Debbie Phillips' seat.
In his statement on Facebook, Bryan wrote that he will support Phillips during her re-election campaign, and asked residents to do the same.
"I am looking forward to her appointment as the next Chair of the Flagler Beach City Commission," Bryan wrote.
Phillips is one of five people registered to run for Flagler Beach City Commission seats in March. The other four are Bill Cunningham, attorney Scott Spradley; former Beverly Beach city commissioner Douglas "Bruno" O'Conner and former Flagler Beach City Commissioner Rick Belhumeur, who lost his reelection bid in 2022.
