The bomb threat — which sent the school into a lock down for over an hour — came from a California phone number, FCSO said in a statement.

The phone call reporting a bomb threat at Matanzas High School originated from a California phone number associated with false "swatting" calls across the country, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

The school's front office received the hoax phone call reporting a bomb on campus at 11 a.m. on Jan. 25, sending MHS into a "Code Blue" lockdown. FCSO was notified and they searched the school using FCSO's Explosive Ordinance Detection K-9 Unit and deputies.

“We do not take threat of this nature lightly,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “We thank the students and staff of MHS who adhered to Flagler School’s Code Blue plan and allowed us space to conduct a thorough search."

The all-clear was given just after 12:45 p.m.

Based on information in the call, the press release from Flagler Schools said, students in building five were moved to the gym and the rest of the school stayed in place during the "Code Blue" lockdown and search.

Flagler Schools made automatic calls to parents and also posted on their website and social media accounts to inform parents of the threat and when it was lifted.

At this time, the person who made the hoax bomb threat has not been identified, but FCSO is still investigating, Staly said.

"If we can identify the caller they will face serious consequences and a trip to the Green Roof Inn," Staly said. "The safety of our students is paramount.”
