The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Department of Transportation are taking part in a multistate speed enforcement campaign that began July 17.

The campaign, called “Operation Southern Slow Down,” is held in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the states of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee, according to a press release from FDOT.

FHP will focus on detecting and citing drivers for speeding on Florida's interstates.

Speeding contributed to 10.5 % of all crash fatalities statewide in 2022, resulting in more than 368 deaths, according to the press release.
