A man is in the hospital after he allegedly ate cocaine when he was pulled over for a traffic stop.

The suspect was pulled over by Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies at 11:26 p.m. on June 20. When a deputy came up to the driver's door, he notices a torn bag in the man's lap and white flakes scattered across his shorts, face and beard, according to a press release from the FCSO.

The deputies ordered the man to exit his car. The man refused and the deputies pulled him from car and detained him.

While he was detained, the suspect spat a white substance several times, the press release said. The substance and the white flakes later tested presumptive positive for cocaine.

The FCSO deputies called for emergency medical services and the suspect was taken to AdventHealth Palm Coast for medical treatment where he remains pending medical clearance.

He has been charged with resisting arrest, cocaine possession and tampering with evidence.
