Halifax Health reports 69 Bike Week-related admissions so far

Of the 69 admissions, 62 were due to motorcycle crashes, according to data released by the hospital.

A total of 69 people connected to Bike Week were admitted to Halifax Health Medical Center during the first five days of the event.

Of the 69 admissions, 62 were due to motorcycle crashes and two were due to motor vehicle crashes, according to data released by the hospital. The remaining admissions included two falls, one bicycle incident, one assault and one stabbing.

In 2022, Halifax Health had admitted 64 people in connection with Bike Week during the first five days of the event; in 2021, the hospital reported 37 admissions.

The majority of the patients admitted so far this year have been men, according to Halifax Health, and most — 38 — live in another state. No fatalities have been reported as of March 7.

Here are other notable stats from the first five days of Bike Week, which will end on Sunday, March 12:

  • 36 of those admitted were wearing helmets
  • 14 patients were admitted with head injuries
  • The average age of patients was 40; the median was 38
  • Of those admitted, 54 were men and 15 were women
  • 12 were Volusia County residents
  • 19 lived in Florida, outside of Volusia County
  • 38 lived out of state.
