Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood will designate a  "zero-tolerance special event zone" for an "unpermitted and potentially disruptive" event to take place this weekend, according to a news release from the Volusia Sheriff's Office.

The event, "Orange Crush Weekend Festival" begins Friday, May 5, and will run through Sunday, May 7, according to its Facebook page. VSO states the special event zone — spanning the beachside from Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach south to Dunlawton Avenue in Daytona Beach Shores — will take effect at 3 p.m. Friday, May 5 and will remain active "as long as is reasonably necessary to ensure public health, safety and welfare. It will not remain in effect if/after the unpermitted event dissipates."

Those in the special event zone, VSO states in its news release, should expect strict enforcement of all laws and zero tolerance for violations.

According to the letter sent to the event promoter, fines will be doubled for any one who commits a noncriminal traffic infraction in the special event zone. Those who commit both a noncriminal traffic infraction or a criminal traffic violation will have his or her vehicle impounded for up to 72 hours, or until fees are paid.
