The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has added three deputies to its Motors Unit.
The unit, which patrols on Harley-Davidson motorcycles and focuses on responding to crashes and enforcing traffic laws, was resurrected in the early 2000s and has had five motorcycles for over a decade, according to a press release from the FCSO. Now it has eight deputies.
This staffing increase is part of Sheriff Rick Staly’s efforts to proactively address community safety concerns.
“This increase in the Motors Unit staffing will allow us to have a greater presence on our roads and handle the large number of traffic complaints we receive,” Staly said.
The new Motor Unit deputies are: Deputy First Class Benjamin Stamps, Deputy Blake Colson and Deputy Matthew Mortimer.
They have completed special training to be certified for the Motors Unit. The course began with 22 students from surrounding agencies, but only nine successfully completed it.
