A woman was shot by Ormond Beach Police officers as she charged at officers with a knife after ramming her vehicle into a community service officer's car at Andy Romano Beachfront Park on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

The CSO was approached by the woman while he was parked at Andy Romano, located at 839 S Atlantic Ave., at around 3:38 p.m., according to a statement from OBPD. The woman, whose identity has not been released, began to hit his car with her bags and made threats about weapons she claimed to be carrying, leading the CSO, who is not a sworn law enforcement officer, to call for backup.

The woman then fled north and the CSO followed her in his vehicle before she jumped on the hood of his car. Police report she then went back to her own car and crashed into the CSO's vehicle repeatedly.

When two OBPD officers arrived at the scene, they saw the woman exit her vehicle with a knife.

"The suspect charged towards the two officers with the knife above her head and an officer discharged their weapon towards the suspect," OBPD's statement reads. "The suspect continued to charge the officers and a second round was discharged, hitting the suspect."

Officers administered first aid on the woman while waiting for paramedics, who then transported her to the hospital.

No officers were injured. The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave per policy as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the shooting.
