The skate park area in Wadsworth Park has closed for repair and renovation, Flagler County Parks and Recreation announced on Wednesday, Nov. 8. The rest of the park will remain open.

The county government will begin repairing ramp sections and a section of concrete at the skatepark starting Monday, Nov. 13 according to the Flagler County government.

"We will remove the section that cannot be repaired, repair the section that can be repaired and replace a small area of concrete that has failed," Flagler County General Services Director Mike Dickson said in an email.

The skate park area is expected to reopen by the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 17.

Flagler Beach resident Jay Wolfington started a petition on Change.org on Nov. 8 to get the skate park area fixed. The petition had 1,064 signatures as of the afternoon of Nov. 13.

In the synopsis for the petition, Wolfington wrote that Flagler Beach does not have enough positive recreational outlets for its youth.

"Rebuilding the Flagler Beach Skatepark would not only provide an outlet for physical activity but also foster a sense of community among our youth," Wolfington wrote. "It would serve as a safe space where they can find mentorship and camaraderie just as I did during my formative years."
