Ormond Beach City Commissioner Travis Sargent is seeking a second term in office.

Sargent, who represents Zone 2 on the commission, filed for reelection on Oct. 20. A veteran with the U.S. Marine Corps, Sargent was elected in 2022. He has worked in insurance for over 20 years and grew up in Ormond Beach.

Sargent decided to seek a second term because he's been able to see some of his key issues make progress in the city.

"I feel ready to give two more years," Sargent said. "The things I ran on the first time — which was updating technology and the chambers, the website — those were big items for me that I wanted to get accomplished that I feel like breed transparency to the city."

Those projects are out for bid and Sargent hopes to see the improvements implemented soon.

Some of the issues he's proud to have been a part of, he said, include the fight against the proposed Belvedere Terminals fuel farm, namely taking the stance to not provide utilities to the unincorporated Volusia County site, and being able to raise pay for police officers.

If reelected, he said he looks forward to continuing to help people as well as figure out ways to automate processes to save money at City Hall. He'd like to take the next year to figure out ways to reduce costs and reduce taxes. Sargent added he'd also like to look into reducing the pollutants going into the Halifax River.

Transparency is also a key issue for Sargent, and he'd like to continue ensuring information is accessible for residents through social media and in local newspapers.

"I'm looking forward to just continuing the momentum that we have and doing what's best for all of Ormond Beach," Sargent said.

Currently, Sargent is the only candidate to have filed to run for Zone 2 city commissioner in the 2024 elections.
