The Volusia County School Board celebrated Ormond Beach Elementary Principal Shannon Hay during its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14, after her school was invited to take part in the East Coast Technical Assistance Center Exceeding Expectations Project due to improvement in student achievement.

The ECTAC Exceeding Expectations Project identifies "high poverty schools that are exceeding expectations by showing significant progress in improving student achievement," according to its website. A team analyzes school grade data and measures such language arts and math proficiency and gains, as well as the percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

OBE was one of 35 out of 3,409 schools who met the criteria for the project, according to Volusia County Schools.

"Congratulations to Principal Hay and her staff for exceeding expectations and showing great progress in improving student achievement for all students," VCS said on its Facebook page.
