Flagler County Emergency Management earned its accreditation Sept. 27 through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program.

The accreditation is valid for five years. To earn it, applicants must demonstrate that their program meets the Emergency Management Standard as certified by the American National Standard Institute, according to a press release from Flagler County.

The accreditation process evaluates emergency management programs on compliance with requirements in sixteen areas, including planning, resource management, training, exercises, evaluations and corrective actions, communications and warning, and administration.

Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said the county Emergency Management Department uses the accreditation process to validate its capabilities for disaster preparedness.

“I am beyond proud of not just the Emergency Management team, but the entire Emergency Management program – which includes all county departments, municipalities, partners, and our entire community,” Lord said.
