The Museum of Arts and Sciences opened its "World War II: Stories from the American Experience" exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Presented by VyStar Credit Union, the exhibit shares rare artifacts and personal memories from people of the WWII era, according to a press release. Through this exhibit, people will explore the three theaters of operation: Europe, the Pacific, and the Home Front through over 100 artifacts and images from the collection of historian, Ryan Lowry.
Sharing the artifacts and stories that he has gathered throughout this life has always been a dream of local collector.
“The museum takes immense pride in presenting the World War II: Stories of the American Experience, a monumental exhibition that marks one of the largest produced by the Museum in two decades,” said Zach Zacharias, MOAS senior curator of history.
A complementary exhibition titled "Wings of History: World War II Aviation Art of John D. Shaw" also opened Friday.
Wings of History features the work of military aviation artist John Shaw. Since the early 90s, Shaw has worked firsthand with many living veterans, seeking their input for the compositions of his work, with the goal of depicting their experiences with historical accuracy and keeping their legacies alive.
Both exhibits will remain on display through Jan. 21, 2024. Entry for these exhibits is free for veterans and active military members with ID.
