A Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was arrested on Sept. 2 for boating under the influence.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrested Deputy First Class Colin Haggerty after FWC officers stopped his boat in the Intracoastal Waterway near the Hammock Dunes Bridge, a press release from the FCSO said. The FWC charged Haggerty with boating under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Haggerty has been suspended without pay for the duration of the FWC's criminal investigation. After the FWC's investigation is complete, the FCSO will then conduct an internal investigation by FCSO’s Professional Standards Unit, the press release said.
Sheriff Rick Staly said he was "extremely disappointed."
“I warned everyone that there would be extra patrols on the roads and waterways this Labor Day weekend," Staly said. "No one is above the law."
Haggerty was released from the Flagler County jail after he posted a $1,000 bond, the press release said.
