Flags will fly at half-mast at the Florida Capitol on Friday, Sept. 8, in honor of Jimmy Buffett, who died on Sept. 1 due to cancer.

U.S. and state flags at the Monroe County Courthouse in Key West, Florida, and the Key West City Hall will also fly at half-mast, according to a news release from the governor's office. This will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., "because it's always five o'clock somewhere," the news release states.

Buffett was born in Mississippi and raised in Alabama, but later moved to Key West. He is an inductee of the Florida Artists Hall of Fame and the news release states he "captured the Florida lifestyle and entertained generations of Floridians with his relaxed 'Floridays' style that embodied the spirit of the Gulf Coast and Conch Republic."

His song "Margaritaville" became a namesake for his business ventures, which include restaurants, resorts, a lifestyle brand, and residential communities, such as the nearby Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach.
