Volusia County officials are closely monitoring the trajectory and possible local impacts of Potential Tropical Cyclone 4. Currently, the National Weather Service predicts the storm will impact the west coast of Florida’s late Sunday to early Monday, with local Volusia County impacts potentially including 4 to 6 inches of rain and winds up to 25 mph.

Residents are urged to ensure they have the necessary hurricane kit supplies and prepare their homes and properties. These preparations include cleaning gutters, removing debris, and securing outdoor furniture and décor. Volusia County residents also have the opportunity to pick up pre-filled sandbags today and tomorrow at the Osteen Fire Station #36, 180 N. State Road 415.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Coastal Division will begin removing trash cans, port-o-lets, and doggie bag dispensers from the dog-friendly beach in Ormond Beach today, Friday, Aug. 2. Residents can download the Volusia Beaches app or visit www.volusia.org/beaches for beach access and ocean condition updates. Additionally, the Public Works Department is inspecting storm drains and retention ponds to minimize the potential of local flooding.

Volusia County staff will remain in communication with state authorities and the National Weather Service. Additionally, the Emergency Operations Center will be staffed throughout the weekend to monitor conditions and provide updates. To stay informed, download the new Volusia Emergency Management app, available on both the App Store and Google Play, follow the County’s social media accounts, and frequently check the County’s website at www.volusia.org.
