The Matanzas boys soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to four games, while Seabreeze lost its sixth straight after opening the season with two wins.
The teams faced off off on Dec. 3 at Matanzas. The Pirates (6-1-1) scored three-second-half goals to defeat the Sandcrabs 4-1.
Davi Nunes dos Santos gave Matanzas a 1-0 lead in the first half. After Tim Shestakov made it 2-0, Seabreeze’s Luke Harrell pulled the Sandcrabs to within a goal with a rocket shot from outside the box.
But the Pirates added goals from Matt Ciminera and Christian Reyes to extend their lead.
Seabreeze (2-6) fought to the end in a 1-0 home loss to Atlantic Coast three days later, while Matanzas won by the mercy rule, 8-0, in a home game against Mainland.
The Pirates travel to Jacksonville Englewood on Monday, Dec. 9, and then host Taylor on Dec. 13. Seabreeze will try to get back into the win column with home games against DeLand on Dec. 10 and University on Dec. 12.
