The Volusia County Democratic Party is calling on all members and concerned citizens to contact their representatives — Michael Waltz and Cory Mills —and demand the passage of the U.S. federal budget for 2025.

In a press release, local Democratic Party Chair Nick Sackhnovsky said that failure of Congress to pass the budget "poses a significant threat to Volusia County citizens, threatening our elderly citizens, federal employees, and working-class families who rely on vital government programs to sustain their livelihoods."

"Under the Republican-controlled House, and the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump and his billionaire adviser Elon Musk, Congress remains gridlocked, with no agreement on a fair and functional budget," the press release states. "This impasse is not just a symptom of political division; it is a direct assault on the quality of life for Volusia County citizens, and countless Americans nationwide."

The Associated Press reported Friday that Trump has doubled-down on insisting a debt ceiling increase be included in any budget deal.

On Thursday, the House rejected his new plan to fund operations and suspend the debt ceiling through Jan. 30, 2027. The AP reports his proposed package would keep government running for three more months and add $100.4 billion in disaster assistance for states impacted by hurricanes.
