Volusia County Councilman Troy Kent was elected as vice chair for 2024.

The County Council selects a new vice chair every year. Kent, who represents District 4 on the council, was nominated by County Councilman David Santiago and the election passed with a unanimous vote. Last year's vice chair was Councilman Danny Robins.

"I am shocked, honored and humbled to be your vice chair next year," Kent said.

During his closing comments, Kent also said he would be announcing his run for reelection to represent District 4 on the council next week.

The County Council also had a brief discussion on changing its meeting date to Thursdays. Councilman Matt Reinhart brought the topic up, saying he believed having the agenda planning meetings and council meetings in the same week would be more productive.

"I know that some time ago, we had meetings on Thursdays and that was changed to Tuesdays at the request of a couple former council members," Reinhart said.

However, the majority of the council was in favor of keeping meetings on Tuesdays due to work and weekend travel.

The County Council also approved the cancellation of two council meetings this year: July 2 and Dec. 17.
