Former Palm Coast City Council member Victor Barbosa has withdrawn from his candidacy for Flagler County Commissioner.

The Observer reported in June that Barbosa had filed to run for the District 5 seat, currently held by Commissioner Donald O’Brien, who is running for the Florida State Representative District 19 seat.

Barbosa declined to comment to the Observer about why he withdrew from the race.

Barbosa, owner of the Man Cave barber shop on Palm Harbor Village Way, resigned as a Palm Coast City Council member in March 2022, days after he was accused of shoplifting at Walmart. Barbosa was initially trespassed from the store but never charged with a crime Walmart ultimately canceled the trespass order.

He previously told the Observer his resignation from City Council "had nothing to do with that incident."

Running for the District 5 seat are Republicans Paul T. Anderson, Palm Coast Vice Mayor Ed Danko and Pam Richardson.
