Volusia County Beach Safety named 2023 Beach Patrol of the Year

In the 2023 season, Volusia County Beach Safety performed 2,512 water rescues and 35,811 preventive actions.

Volusia County Beach Safety has been named the 2023 Beach Patrol of the Year by the Florida Beach Patrol Chiefs Association. The recognition underscores the agency's exceptional efforts and dedication throughout the year.

In the 2023 season, Volusia County Beach Safety performed 2,512 water rescues and 35,811 preventive actions, responding to 1,162 medical emergencies, and addressing 41,272 calls for service.

The association acknowledged the agency's achievements in competitions as well. Volusia County Beach Safety's competition team secured third place overall in the USLA Southeast Regional Lifeguard Competition in Delray Beach and eighth place overall in the USLA National Lifeguard Championships in Virginia Beach. 

Volusia County Beach Safety also showcased a strong presence at the International Surf Rescue Challenge on South Padre Island, Texas. Notably, two of the eight female competitors representing the United States in the open division team began their careers with Volusia County Beach Safety. Additionally, three of the eight under 19 team competitors currently work for Volusia County Beach Safety. The open team secured a third place overall, while the under 19 team clinched the second-place overall position.
