The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office received a $120,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation to help reduce motorcycle crashes in the county.

Between 2020 and 2022, 230 motorcycle crashes occurred in Flagler County, according to a FCSO press release. Nine of those were fatalities and another 44 involved serious injuries.

Using the grant funding, the FCSO will implement safety and awareness programs through high-visibility traffic enforcement, public outreach, and safety messaging during events like Bike Week and Biketoberfest, the press release said.

“Our goal is to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes in Flagler County through education and enforcement,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Many bikers live, visit, and enjoy our county and this grant will help us in our mission to keep them safe on the roadways.”

Among 14 counties with a population between 50,000 and 200,000, FDOT data ranked Flagler County as sixth for motorcycle crashes involving serious injuries and fatalities, the press release said.
