Ormond Beach City Commissioner Lori Tolland is running for reelection.
Tolland, who represents Zone 1 on the commission, filed to run for a second term in office on Jan. 23. A registered nurse, Tolland has lived in Ormond Beach since 1989 and served on the city's Leisure Services Advisory Board for 22 years and the Ormond Beach Planning Board for six years before she was elected in 2022.
Tolland said she decided to run for reelection because she enjoys serving the residents and giving them a voice.
"My goal is always resolution of issues, which oftentimes is simply education," Tolland said. "I believe that advocacy for your constituents is the most important asset I can bring to the table."
Since being elected, Tolland said the City Commission has been tasked with dealing with some difficult issues: the threat of developing the Tymber Creek Apartments with a higher density under the Live Local Act, the threat of Avalon Park Daytona and the legal aspects of Ormond providing utilities; the development proposals for the former Tomoka Oaks golf course; the lawsuit between the city, Flagler County and Hunter's Ridge; and Belvedere Terminals' proposed fuel farm at 874 Hull Road.
The commission has never been more engaged, she added.
And while addressing all those issues, Tolland said, she said she believes commissioners shouldn't forget about the "little things in the community" that bring positive change.
"It is a resident with an idea to build a park or trail," she said. "It's staff that finds ways to bring additional services or celebrations to the community that we all enjoy. I am always available to our residents. I will always advocate and be a voice when needed and I would love the opportunity to continue the journey as city commissioner Zone 1."
If elected, some of the initiatives she hopes to see through include establishing a park along North Beach Street on the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail, from Bailey Riverbridge Garden to the land at 56 N. Beach St., as well as improving connectivity in town through multimodal trails.
