U.S. Army veteran and retired U.S. Postal Service employee Dana “Mark” Stancel is running for the Palm Coast City Council District 3 seat.
Stancel moved to Palm Coast three years ago and began attending City Council meetings. He said he wanted to get involved and first applied for a position in the city’s planning board. Stancel was not selected for that position but did apply and was selected for the Citizens Advisory Committee and the Code Enforcement Board in 2023.
He’s now running for City Council because he said he is not happy with how the council has so far handled issues like development, infrastructure and job growth. Many people are not happy, he said, and the council should reflect the voice of the people.
“Because of all this, I decided, somebody’s got to stand up,” he said. “Yeah, Palm Coast is going to grow but it needs to grow a little slower and a little smarter.”
Stancel said he believes his experience in the military, working with logistics and administration, gives him some experience in handling a council position. More importantly, he said, he cares about this city.
“The fact that I am a concerned citizen that wants the best for the city of Palm Coast — that's really the gist of it,” Stancel said. “I want I want our city to just be the most awesome place we can have.”
