A 71-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car while crossing A1A on Monday, Jan. 29, Ormond Beach Police reported.

The woman was crossing the street at 100 S. Atlantic Ave. at around 6:42 p.m. to her family’s condominium  when she was struck by an SUV, according to a press release. The woman, who was not using a crosswalk, had paused at the median before walking east across A1A’s northbound travel lanes when she was struck.

“We urge the public to prioritize their safety by using designated crosswalks, staying visible, obeying traffic signals and exercising caution — especially in high-traffic areas,” OBPD stated.
