July is the nationally recognized Park and Recreation Month and the city is encouraging residents to get out and enjoy the city's parks and trails.

At the July 3 Palm Coast City Council meeting, the city read a proclamation designating the month in honor of Parks and Recreation. To celebrate, the department is hosting multiple events throughout the month under the theme "Where You Belong," to highlight how parks and recreation builds belonging within the community, according to city documents.

"Palm Coast Parks and Recreation offers a variety of opportunities for everyone from toddlers to seniors to explore, connect, and play in Palm Coast," the proclamation read.

Parks and Recreation Director James Hirst said the department's staff are the ones who really help bring the community together through their work.

"They work weekends, weeknights, ... everything," he said. "Without them, I don't think Palm Coast would be Palm Coast."

The events tied to the celebration included the recent July Fourth celebrations, as well as the upcoming July 16 Food Truck Tuesday and Pedal in the Park on July 20, a leisurely bike ride through Linear and Waterfront Parks.
