Flagler County Veteran of the Week: Richard ‘Alan’ Thornton

The U.S. Military Academy graduate has lived in Flagler County since 2011.

Alan Thornton is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, class of 1984. He completed the Airborne Course at Fort Benning (now Fort Moore), Georgia, and went on to earn his Senior Parachutist Badge. Thornton attended his officers basic course at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

He was subsequently assigned to Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), North Carolina, where he became a company commander. He earned the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal among other awards before his separation from honorable service. He, his wife Lee, son and daughter have been Flagler County residents since 2011. He supports and participates in a variety of local charities. Thornton is a financial advisor with the Edward Jones company, and you can find him at the office on Old Kings Road in Palm Coast.
