An Indianapolis-based Baroque chamber ensemble will present a free concert at Daytona State College on Saturday, June 15.
The ensemble, Echoing Air, will perform music by George Frideric Handel, Henry Purcell, Claudio Monteverdi, Thomas Tallis and more, according to a press release. The concert will mark the culmination of the ensemble's week of work with high school and college students from around the U.S. who are attending the fourth annual Exploring Vocal Arts summer camp, which provides them with a chance to work directly with professional musicians and coaches and expand their knowledge of renaissance and baroque repertoire.
This year, campers worked with lutenist Cameron Welke, of Virginia, who is part of Duo Silvio and plays regularly with the Washington Bach Consort, the Folger Consort and the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, the press release states.
Echoing Air, composed of a harpsichord, viola de gamba and recorders, was founded by Dr. Steven Rickards, who was born and raised in Daytona Beach.
“It’s exciting to be back in Daytona Beach and be able to share the knowledge I’ve acquired through my career," Rickards said in the press release. "Young singers rarely have the opportunity to work as intensely with a group of profession musicians and to learn directly from them. By the end of the week, they have made amazing progress toward their musical goals."
