Volusia County Schools will hold a community meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 18, to discuss the transfer of Riverview Learning Center's Alternative Education Program to the former Osceola Elementary campus.
The meeting, to be held at the Osceola campus at 100 Osceola Ave., comes after residents voiced both opposition to the transfer, and a lack of notice from VCS about how it planned to use the old elementary campus, which is currently housing the Tomoka Elementary student body as their new school is constructed.
The transfer of the program from its current locations at 801 N. Wild Olive Ave. (sixth to 12th grade) and within Silver Sands Middle School (elementary school), will allow all of its students to be housed in the same campus.
The community meeting announcement also follows a letter sent to the Volusia County School Board by the Ormond Beach City Commission asking the body to reconsider their decision and to hold a community meeting.
"This meeting represents a vital opportunity for all of us to ask questions and to explore the future of the Osceola property and the possibility of Riverview’s integration," the city posted on its Facebook page on Saturday.
