FDOT's $4.1 million pedestrian safety project added eight new mid-block crosswalks on A1A from south of Milsap Road to East Granada Boulevard. Of the eight crosswalks, seven were equipped rapid flashing beacons. An overhead pedestrian hybrid beacon was added at the new crosswalk at Rockefeller Drive. The speed limit was also lowered from 35 mph to 30 mph.

Since 2019, FDOT reports that there have been six pedestrian-related crashes along this stretch of A1A.

An FDOT project team member led participants on a 1.4 mile walk along the sidewalk to learn about the improvements, according to a press release. Participants were joined by Walker, the mascot of Alert Tonight Florida, a pedestrian safety initiative by FDOT.

The new crosswalks are located at:

  • Milsap Road
  • Benjamin Drive
  • River Beach Drive
  • Arlington Way
  • Ormond Parkway
  • Osceola Avenue
  • Bosarvey Drive
  • Rockefeller Drive
