Palm Coast Fire Department dedicates engine in honor of U.S. Army soldier over memorial weekend

U.S. Army Sgt. Luke Stanford was serving in Iraq when he died in 2008.

The Palm Coast Fire Department dedicated a fire engine in memory of U.S. Army Sgt. Luke Stanford over the memorial weekend.

The annual Gold Star Dedication ceremony took place at at Fire Station 23, locally known as Indian Trails, at 5750 Belle Terre Parkway. The department's new 2024 E-One Typhoon engine was dedicated to Stanford and placed into front-line service, a PCFD press release said.

“We are incredibly proud that Sgt. Stanford’s memory will now accompany Palm Coast Fire Engine 23 as they strive to deliver the best service to our community every time. They protect the lives and property of our residents and restore stability in times of chaos,” Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill said.

Local officials, Gold Star families and the family and friends of Stanford attended the ceremony held in Stanford's honor.

Stanford enlisted in the Army in 2004 and, upon completing basic training, was assigned to assigned to the Charlie Company, 16th Engineer Battalion. He was deployed to Tal Afar, Iraq, in January 2006, the press release said, and died on Oct. 4, 2008.
