A Flagler County Fire Rescue battalion chief has recently graduated from a leadership course sponsored and hosted by the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association.

Flagler County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Daniel VanDeusen graduated from the Emergency Services Leadership Institute, a program designed to address present-day leadership issues affecting mid-level through chief fire officers, according to a FCFR press release. The program offers seven areas of study, including human resources, emergency management, community risk reduction and budgeting, among others.

“It was a great experience going through this program and having the opportunity to learn from subject matter experts within the targeted curriculum,” VanDeusen said. “It has provided me with new tools to bring to the table.”

The course collectively serve as a foundation for emerging fire services leaders as they advance towards promotion within their respective agencies, according to the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association website. Graduates of the program can use completed coursework to achieve further certifications from the State Fire Marshal’s Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, the press release said.
