Palm Coast's Mala Magic wins silver at the National Team Pickleball League Championships

Palm Coast pickleball team wins silver at nationals 

Mala Magic representing Flagler County and the state of Florida in the National Team Pickleball League Championships on Sept. 14-15 in Hilton Head, South Carolina, won the silver medal in the men’s doubles age 50-plus 4.0 level.

The team, consisting of 11 Palm Coast residents, took on teams from Arizona and Oregon, playing 180 games over the two days. Mala Magic lost 25-23 in the championship match after advancing with a come-from-behind win in the semifinals.

Fit 2 Dink, Flagler County’s women’s doubles age 55-plus 3.0 team, is in Las Vegas for the WD National Championships, Oct. 3-6.

The Florida Team Pickleball Leauge Inc. begins play for the fall season on Oct. 7 at pickleball courts across Voluisa, Flagler and St. Johns counties. Team registration is closed but player registration will remain open until Nov. 3. For more information go to www.ftpli.org.

FPC falls to University

Flagler Palm Coast's football team lost its first game of the season, 34-19 at University, on Sept. 27. The Bulldogs (4-1) tallied 380 yards of offense but gave up 447 yards to the Titans (5-1). Anthony May rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns for University. Marcus Mitchell rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown for FPC. Hayden Hayes threw touchdown passes to Robbie Dailey and Mikhail Zysek. The Bulldogs will travel to Neptune Beach Fletcher on Oct. 4.

NSB shuts down Seabreeze offense

Seabreeze was held to 47 total yards in a 35-6 loss to New Smyrna Beach on Sept. 28. Dylan Tocci ran for 32 yards and scored the Sandcrabs’ only touchdown but went 0 for 7 passing. Seabreeze (0-4) will try to win its first game of the season on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Atlantic (0-5).

Seabreeze volleyball blanks Atlantic

Seabreeze’s volleyball team defeated Atlantic 3-0 on Oct. 1 for its fourth win in its last five matches. Andie Litz showcased her versatility with 10 kills, five blocks, 19 assists and eight digs. Lilli Litz had 16 digs.

FPC girls second at cross country meet

Flagler Palm Coast’s girls cross country team finished second behind Creekside, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A, at the Bale-N-Trail cross country meet at Bartram Trail High School. Every FPC girl set a personal record or ran a season-best, led by freshman Peyton Ceraci, who placed seventh with a time of 19:18.1. Matanzas was 11th.

FPC’s boys placed fifth with Braedyn Wormeck placing 23rd with a time of 17:07.7. Matanzas’ Blaine Vogel was 25th in 17:11.3. Douglas Seth, running for Imagine School of Town Center, won the 3K middle school race with a time of 9:59.4. 

Abbey headed to Costa Rica

Blake Abbey of Ormond Beach can often be found fishing locally with his two daughters, ages 4 and 6. On Oct. 18-19, he will compete for Team USA at the Pan American Surf Fishing Championship at Jalova Beach, Costa Rica.

With two decades of East Coast experience under his belt and a love of snook, tarpon and jack fishing from the sand with artificial baits, Abbey brings a wealth of experience to Team USA.
